Lil Durk Found Not Guilty on All Charges in Murder-for-Hire Trial

Chicago rap superstar Lil Durk has been acquitted of every charge he faced in his federal murder-for-hire trial—but his legal fight is not completely over.

A federal jury in Los Angeles found Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, not guilty on September 11, 2026. The jury deliberated for three days before clearing the Grammy-winning Chicago artist of all charges connected to the 2022 Los Angeles shooting that killed Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, the cousin of rapper Quando Rondo.

Prosecutors alleged that Durk financed and directed an attempted retaliatory attack against Quando Rondo following the 2020 death of Durk’s close friend and fellow Chicago rapper King Von. Durk’s defense challenged the credibility of cooperating witnesses and argued that the attack was carried out without his knowledge.

After hearing weeks of testimony and reviewing the government’s evidence, the jury determined that prosecutors had not proven their case against Durk beyond a reasonable doubt. Durk reportedly became emotional as the verdict was announced.

Not Guilty Does Not Yet Mean Released

Despite the acquittal, Durk reportedly remains in federal custody while awaiting a separate trial scheduled for October 5. That case reportedly involves racketeering, murder-related allegations and weapons charges.

That distinction is important: Durk was found not guilty of every charge in the murder-for-hire trial that just ended, but the verdict does not automatically mean he is walking out of custody immediately. Reuters and the Associated Press both reported that another federal case remains pending.

Supporters gathered outside the Los Angeles courthouse and celebrated as news of the acquittal spread. The closely watched trial also attracted support from major artists, including Chicago’s own Ye.

For Chicago hip-hop, this is a major development involving one of the most successful artists to emerge from the city’s drill movement. Durk rose from Chicago’s South Side music scene to become a Grammy-winning international star, helping carry Chicago’s sound to audiences worldwide.

Two co-defendants tried alongside Durk were acquitted of the central murder-for-hire allegations but convicted of certain stalking-related charges, according to CBS News Chicago.

The verdict is a victory for Durk’s defense and supporters, but the underlying case also involved the death of Saviay’a Robinson. That loss should not be forgotten as reactions continue across social media.
